The town of Trhové Sviny is a starting point for tourist trips into the Slepičí and Novohradské Mountains. The name of the town loosely translates to “Market Pigs” and comes from its renowned markets. The town has a square with a historic town hall, arcade houses, and a stone fountain that will enchant you. The monumental Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary bears a statue of the Madonna from 1520.
The town is also the birthplace of the President of the Protectorate Emil Hácha. Every year in August, a brass music festival takes place in the honor of another important native, Karel Valdauf.

An ancient path takes you to the Baroque Holy Trinity Church with its exceptional composition inspired by the Christian symbolism of the number three. Don’t miss the chance to wash your eyes in the nearby chapel with its alleged healing waters.
