Jindřichův Hradec Narrow-gauge Railway

There are two narrow-gauge railways with a track gauge of only 760 mm – these are among the most important sights and hiking destinations of the Jindřichův Hradec area. They both start in Jindřichův Hradec. The older one is from 1897 and is 33 km long; it runs from Jindřichův Hradec to Nová Bystřice, winding its way through the charming landscape of Czech Canada southward to the Austrian border. The other is from 1906 and is 46 km long; it runs northward from Jindřichův Hradec to Obrataň and connects Jindřichův Hradec with Kamenice nad Lipou, Černovice, and the western section of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. To this day, both narrow-gauge railways still serve primarily for regional transport in the daily operation of passenger and freight trains. Certain locales also offer rides with their own historic trains pulled by a steam locomotive, for public transport according to the regular timetable, but you can even have a train dispatched by special request. Riding a narrow-gauge steam train is an experience that no visitor to Jindřichův Hradec should miss.
